We welcome you to contact us and visit our website for more information on the Biewer, or the BBCC www.biewerbcc.com. MEET the Biewer a’la Pom-Pon First recognized by Mr. Werner Biewer of Streamglen Kennel in Germany, the Biewer is best described as a companion dog of immense charm and personality. The overall look of the Biewer is that of a Yorkshire terrier, except for the color variance. It is believed that this colour variance was derived after the mating of two Yorkshire terriers both carrying piebald genes. Piebald refers to patches of skin, which have no pigment so they appear white. The Piebald gene is recessive meaning both parents must be showing or carrying for it to appear. True piebald bred to true piebald’s always produce an entire litter of piebald pups, as seen in the quality Biewer’s we see today. Although the ancestry of the Biewer includes Yorkshire terrier lines, it is through select Biewer to Biewer breeding that has established the Biewer as a distinct breed. The Biewer (pronounced Bee-vir or Bee-Va, like Diva) is a tri- colored dog with long silky hair and 3 face colors: white, black or blue and gold and black/blue and varying degrees of white on its back. Legs and belly are white. o The Biewer a’la Pom-Pon is small in size weighing up to 3.1 Kg or 6.7 lbs as an adult and is somewhat fragile. The height at the withers is 8.6 inches. As with most toy breeds the Biewer is not suitable for toddler or young children. o The body is well proportioned and compact. The forelegs should be straight without any bowing of either leg. The ears are held erect and come to a point with soft silky fringes of hair falling off the sides of the ear. The eyes are round & dark and are very alert and somewhat mischievous in nature. o The coat falls in silky abundance on each side of the body, with a level topline. The tail is not docked and is carried over the back, being somewhat higher than the topline, with an abundance of silky plumes of hair. o Coat and Color: Silky, straight and single coated. The face/head/ears should have 3 colors: Gold, white and black or blue. The body has no sign of gold in it and can be varying degrees of white and black/blue. The legs, underbelly and chest are white and the tail is either all white or has a white tip at the end. o Temperament: Highly Intelligent, inquisitive, free thinkers, friendly, playful, very needy for human companionship, many are true lap loungers. As with most dogs early socialization and training begin with the breeder. Biewers are fearless, inquisitive and playful. While their guard dog ability remains low, their watchdog ability is rated high. The Biewer makes a good companion dog. o Grooming: Weekly grooming, if not more, is required to keep mats out of the long beautiful coat. Bathing can be every week or every other week as needed o Health: Concerns are similar to other toy breeds but not limited to Liver Shunts (both macro and microscopic and Luxating Pattellas. Litter size: 1-4 pups. Life span: 10-15 years?
