Many say that the basenji is one of the oldest known dog breeds. Dogs with almost identical appearance as our days basenji can be found in some cave paintings in Tessir-N-Ajer, Algeria and these paintings is said to be 12 000 years old. The breed is likely to be descended from the Schensid dogs in the Kwango district in former Belgian Congo. It was also from this district that the Westerners in the year of 1895 reported about small dogs that couldn't bark. Very homogene groups of these dogs has been found in isolated pygmy tribes in Congo but also in southern Sudan. They where used both as hunting dogs, to keep the cottages warm and clean and as company for the children. Tribes in Sudan is said to value their dogs very high and they are given away as special gifts or wedding presents. As hunting dogs they show great curage, speed and persistance. First in 1936 the basenji managed to survive and reproduce in England. It took a great amount of time for the breed to acclimatize in the West World. The first basenji in Sweden arrived in 1951.

The Azawakh is an African sighthound of ancient origin raised throughout the Sahelian zone of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. This region includes the Azawakh Valley for which the breed is named. Westerners associate the hounds primarily with the nomadic Tuareg but they are also bred and owned by other ethnic groups such as the Peulh and Bella. The Hausa, a settled ethnic group living by trading and agriculture, also raise the hounds.

Ces épreuves, conduites par notre dresseur professionnel, ont permis à nos chiennes d'exprimer les réelles qualités de chasse de cette race. Le Braque d'Auvergne est, de plus, très apprécié pour chasser la bécasse.

Since 1991 the Estonian Kennel Union, as the central body in Estonia, was an associative member of FCI, and since June 1, 1999 is a federated member. It has close connections with kennel unionsof the Nordic countries. We cannot underestimate the value of Finnish, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic unions when it comes to experience and trainig, practical help for organizing shows and educating referees, co-ordinating breeding activities, etc. At present the Estonian Kennel Union unites 35 organisations and 1,600 individuals all of whom deal with breeding of thoroughbred dogs in Estonia. It is responsible for publishing the magazine KOER (Dog) and arranging different undertakings, including 35 shows, 5 of them for all breeds and those are included in the international calendar of the FCI.

Curiosity was established 1996 when mother and daughter Kristina and Pia Heinonen decided to start breeding beautiful and healthy dogs with outgoing temperaments. At this point both of them had been involved with dogs for many years and with silkys since 1989. First bearded collie came to the family 1990. Although breeding with beardies did start later. Our outlook is to only use the best possible dogs, no matter how far you have to go to find it. And never ever accept the 2nd best. For example, our foundation silky dam is a mix of the finest European lines mixed together with the finest Australian lines at that moment of time. Her name is Int & Fin & S & Dk ch JWW-94 Dane York Jeux de Mots called Inna bred by Markku Kipinä. We cud never have even bream of a better foundation dam. Inna has been giving Curiosity four litters. From each litter comes a World Winner offspring! Inna was mated twice with Multi Bis Winner Am & Mex ch WW-01 Shalee Tawny Mist Royal Silk the all time top silky terrier in U.S, ones by Bis Winner Aust & Fin ch EUW-01 Balkana Rare Edition and once by Group winner Fin & N & GBz ch Lonely Tunes Shalee Priority (Son of Royal Silk). We only have litters for the purpose of future breeding material. At Curiosity there are no litters that are fully sold to outsiders, we always co own, place or fully own at least one puppy from each litter. Later we carefully plan wich dogs we are using for future breeding work. There is even World- and Bis winners that are not worth continue their genes. We work together with some of the most appreciated breeders around the world. Some of them has became our dear friends. We value each others opinions and help each other as good as we can. We realize that the people that we co-own dogs with are important to us. We do appreciate their work more than words can tell. We also appreciate the work that each an every Curiosity owner does for us and their dogs. We need their help every now and then and we are ready to give our help always when needed. We never lend our males to females that we would not use for breeding our selves. We only lend our males to combinations we belief in. This might give some people the feeling that we are mean or self-centered, but people that know us better also knows that’s not how it is. Why would we work hard to get good materia and then spoil it by giving our males to females that does not for some reason deserve the male. Sometimes the reason we don’t lend a particular male is because it has already been used enough at that time. Silky terrier is a small breed we don’t want to jeopardize the breed by giving one male a too big breeding percent, not even for one year. We have created our own way of breeding like everybody does. Our priority is always to get better at what we do. Learn something new from every litter we have. Always aim for the perfect creature so in beauty, temperament as in health.
